The USA PATRIOT Act (Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001 (Public Law Pub.L. 107-56), commonly known as the "Patriot Act", was enacted by Congress to deter and punish terrorist acts in the United States and around the world by enhancing the law enforcement investigatory tools of both domestic law enforcement and foreign intelligence agencies.
